This is the second time I've focused on trans issues in Victoria for a documentary. Last year I interviewed Aaron Devor about the trans archive at the UVic Macpherson Library. The stories from people involved in trans activism work are both inspiring and upsetting. Inspiring because of the difficult work and dedication to helping make individual lives and the community better. Upsetting because of the discrimination and hatred many trans people face on a daily basis.
This documentary was an interesting challenge as the interviews I conducted were each about as long as the documentary itself and it was incredibly difficult to whittle it all down to a 30 minute piece.
